I have battled with acne since my early 20s. Anyone who has suffered breakouts knows how awful and frustrating it can be when you can't figure out how to clear up your skin. There are tons of amazing products out there that work really well, the problem is that it can take some time to find the one that works best with your skin type. As I have learned the hard way, what works for one person may not work for the next. Yes, I suffer from acne but acne products actually make my skin worse! It took me YEARS to figure out that I have sensitive, acne prone skin but the acne stemmed from hormones and diet. I have literally tested every product on the market in search for what works for me and finally landed on a regime right for my skin type.
Though there really is no way to control hormonal outbreaks, there are ways to help. First off, avoiding any meat that could potentially have added hormones. I am not quite sure I have that down to a science yet though. I became vegan for 30 days back in July. The first thing I noticed was that my skin was consistently clear. After 30 days though, I really felt like I needed fish and eggs so I added them back in. Still, my skin remained clear. was it chicken and turkey in general? I am not sure because I haven't put it back into my diet yet. I do wonder if even organic chicken would cause the breakouts. The only way to know is to test it as I am really curious about this. What can you do about it right now though? While trying to find the combination of products that might work for you. ( I can do a whole post on my current favorites, if you want it comment below!)
1. Change your pillowcase every night
You don't realize that the oils from you hair, be it natural or from product, rub off on your pillowcase every night. Then you put your face on it and what happens? clogged pores and major breakouts! What I do is flip my pillow over each night so I basically change it on the 3rd night. This has really helped!
2. Keep your phone clean!!
Ok, I really think by now we all now you really shouldn't be putting your phone up to your ear ever but if you must, make sure it's clean! Bacteria lives there. Think about how dirty your hands are when you're constantly texting and Instagramming all day long. Or putting your phone down on a dirty table at lunch, politely facing the screen down as to not be rude during your meal. All that bacteria when pressed against your delicate skin will cause breakouts! It took me years to learn this but the right side of my face has so many acne scars to prove it. The years of putting my dirty phone up to my face was a huge mistake.
3. Take a supplement!
Certain vitamins have been shown to help keep skin clear. I am a huge fan of zinc as it has many benefits like immunity building and cancer fighting properties but it also has been proven to kill the bacteria that causes acne. A great multi vitamin will help if you want to get everything in one place. I love vitamin A as well as fish oils for skin.
4.Invest in an LED light
One thing I can say universally works for all skin types is a great LED light. I personally love the one from Lightstim They make an acne one which is the blue light and red for anti aging. I love these at home treatments because the acne one really helps clear existing breakouts but also helps prevent and heal those painful under the skin ones before they come out.
5. WATER WATER WATER
I cannot stress this one enough. Dehydration is so so bad for so many reasons. One easy way to keep your skin not only clear but glowing is to make sure you drink a ton of water daily! I always add coconut water in too because it is so hydrating. If you do nothing else for you skin, just keep it hydrated!
